Today I went to Tigre with Luis. Luis was one of my roomates who was travelling from Mendoza, a province in Argentina. He doesn't speak English. I don't speak Spanish. I brought both my dictionaries along. It was definately a challenge. We took the subway to the train station and the train went straight to Tigre. It was exciting for me because I've never been on a train before (Vancouver skytrain doesn't count, neither does the Spaghetti Factory). This train has wooden seats and is on real tracks. I stared at the neighbourhoods that we passed and only saw one Shanty town. The rest are townhouse upon townhouses. I didn't see any farms. The farms are in the country, not so much in the City. Tigre, everyone says, is beautiful. I am definately spoiled with Vancouver scenery because I didn't think much of it. It's a river (dirty) and there's lots of trees and lots of tourist shops. There is a boat ride that goes up and down the river and a fruit market nearby. There is also a 24 hour casino that we checked out and it's just the same as any other casino I've been in: depressing, but in Spanish. Also nearby is an amusement park with rides and all. It was raining that day and I didn't have the stomach to pay ten pesos and not go on any rides. Although the cotton candy did look nice.
Evening: I went to this bar with some new-found, English-speaking friends. It was about 1am and the place was pretty dead. We played a couple rounds of pool and went back to the hostel.
